  21. Doors says:

Hmm… looks like one of Hitchcock's ladies, but the name escapes me for now…

    • dixielandjazz says:

Are you thinking of Tippi Hedren? I don't think that is her… but damn she looks familiar! Please post if you figure out who that is Doors. LOL  Hey Doors, Did you play that Film Fatale game? The whole time I was playing that game I was thinking about Hitchcock and his obsession with Tippi Hedren! LOL

      • Doors says:

Janet Leigh was “Psycho”and Tipi Hedren “The Birds”-thanks for the excellent suggestions-but I’m still undecided lol!!

      • Doors says:

Perhaps TheMadBlonde will return one day and end our suffering!I enjoyed Film Fatale, had an originality and quirkiness which I liked. Also, to be able to rescue a peroxide blonde in distress was pure wish fulfillment!!!  ; )

    • brymon says:

      could it be janet liegh

    • Tink says:

Looks like Janet Leigh but not sure !!

      • SweetestTreats says:

Sorry for butting in but it's definately not Janet Leigh

        • dixielandjazz says:

I didn't think so either Sweetest. Will the owner of that Avatar please come forward and tell us who that is and put us out of our misery!?! LOL

          Hello Vazzy! :)

          • Tink says:

I don't think  so, looks a bit like Janet but i don't think so ,i've been looking at old pics on google and cant find anything grrr ….

        • Tink says:

No problem , mmm i don't think so either any ideas ?

        • Doors says:

Not at all SweetestTreats,it's an open discussion and your viewpoint is welcome-but can you suggest any alternatives?

      • Doors says:

Hmm…I’ll have to call a halt to Googling the Blondes myself, the Little Woman is getting very suspicious…lol!!!

        • Tink says:

Maybe that would be a good idea in your case lol ,i've looked and i cant find a resemblance ,i hate it when i cant work something out !!!

          • Koo2 says:

It's doing my head in too!!! She looks so familiar, yet like a cocktail of a few 1950's starlets mixed together. Maybe this is a picture of the Mad Blonde herself when she was younger + maybe not famous at all. Hopefully she'll put us out of our misery soon.
PS. Hope you don't mind me getting involved :-) )

  22. Mst2green says:

Can someone tell me why I keep getting interrupted.  This is sooooooooooooooo fustrating.  I want to download anything at this point.  Thanks

  23. Guest says:

    Hello all!
I sure didn't mean to leave you hanging on the avatar question but I went to bed after I posted and slept for quite awhile.  I don't drink but if it's possible to get drunk on HOGs, I did last night.  I played The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Midnight Mysteries The Legend of Edgar Allan Poe back to back last night until I konked out head first into the keyboard.  It's like I had no will of my own!  I think I need HOG Anonymous.

Anyway, without further ado.  You were both close.  It is not Janet Leigh or Tippi Hedren.  I used to use Tippi's "The Birds" picture as my avatar but just recently changed.  It is the outstanding beauty Diana Millay.  I am a big Dark Shadows fan (yes, I'm one of those cult nuts).  She played Laura Collins, the Immortal Phoenix of 1767 who died in a fire and rose from the flames to live again for 100 years before doing it all over again in 1867 and 1967, ect.     You might also recognize her from Bonanza, The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, Death Valley Days, Rawhide, Perry Mason, Wagon Train, Ft. Laramie, Maverick and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and much more.  Ironically enough, she was never in a Hitchcock film but she's exactly the type that Alfred Hitchcock would have used.

Now, I'm not sure if I'm posting this correctly.  I seem to be DISQUS challeneged.  If I don't figure it out, I'll ask for help…..or just change my name to The Dumb Blonde but then I'd have to put my own picture up.  Oh yeah, I guess that answers the question of whether I photoshopped myself.  I'm not sure how to do that but if I could whitle and crop myself to look like Diana Millay, I'd have to figure it out.  She's quite stunning.  In the meantime, here's me.

    Tata for now!

    • dixielandjazz says:

Hello MadBlonde! It is nice to meet you!
Thank you for telling us… we had fun trying to figure it out but we were all stymied. :)

      • Guest says:

        Hello DixielandJazz,
Likewise, it's nice to meet all of you, as well.  Thanks, also, to ASG for all the great and fun games!Warm Blessings to all,TMB

        • SweetestTreats says:

          Hello TMB,
It's so nice to meet you! Thank you for providing us with a guessing game regarding your profile picture, lol! I knew she looked so familiar but just couldn't place her name. My Mum, like you, is a great Dark Shadows fan and of all the old TV shows you speak of. Funny how when someone looks so familiar you sometimes just can never think of their names.
Anyways, like you I am new to ASG as well, so welcome! So far I am really enjoying the site. I find the people are warm and friendly, and the games ASG provides are topnotch!
          Blessings to you as well!

          • Guest says:

            Hello SweetestTreats!

Yes, that was fun for me also.  I wasn't expecting to wake up and find a dozen messages on my iPod about my avatar.  It was fun to read them all.  Members here really do like games!

This is a wonderful site.  I only wished I'd discovered it a long time ago.  I've spent a fortune at Big Fish, Best Buy games, Casual Games, Media House and store bought games in the past few years.  I had close to 1000 games before I stumbled onto ASG recently.

Unfortunately, it was a week before the file sharing problems.  I knew it was too good to be true to be able to download a free game in under 30 minutes.  Now I seem to be growing a beard waiting for the downloads.  Hopefully, the file sharing situation will not be permanent.  I'm optomistic.

I belong to a site that has old time radio audiobooks and videos of those shows I memtioned–plus more.  My own page on the site is a tribute to Dark Shadows.  It's a fun site and it's all free, just like ASG.  If your Mum would ever like to visit and download anything, just let me know and I'll be happy to send you a link.  I'm not sure what the rule are here and if I'm allowed to post it so that's the only reason I'm not putting it on at the moment.  It's not an exclusive site or anything–everyone is welcome to join.  I'm just not familiar with this site and what it does and doesn't allow.

So nice to meet you SweetestTreats.  I love your avatar picture.  So sweet.

            Blessings,

            Kelley (TMB)

              Hi Kelley,
I'm Shannon! Yes my Mum would love to visit your site I think it would be something that she would really enjoy. As to the rules here for posting other site links etc…..I'm not too sure, perhaps one of the other members who have been here awhile can tell us, or perhaps ASG themselves as it is their site, lol!
I too wish I had found this place sooner, I really just kind of stumbled upon it. I don't own many games but I think I'm the queen demo player! It is nice to be able to enjoy an entire game without the time limits. So far the few games I have downloaded from here, I've been able to download in the half hour to 45 min. range. Not sure how much someone's internet provider has anything to do with it, but for me our provider is excellent. I also signed up for a free membership on FileFactory, as I refuse to pay for one, so I don't know if that makes a difference either. But I do see that there are many like you that are having issues with the download times.
Take care, and hopefully we will chat again soon,
              Shannon (SweetestTreats)
P.S. My avatar picture reminded me of an Irish Fairy from a folklore tale. I love fairies of any kind, but am very fond of the Irish ones!

              • Guest says:

                Hi Shannon,
If you like, you can email me at XXXXX and I'll send you a link to the site. The internet is a double edged sword.  It can be a blessing on the one hand or a downright creepy place if you're not careful so I understand if you don't want to email. You do what you feel comfortable with and/or we can just wait for ASG to comment and see what they say and if it's o.k., I'll just post the link to the site.  I'm sure your Mum will love the site.  Kelley (TMB)

                • SweetestTreats says:

                  Hi Kelley,
I hope you understand, and please don't think I'm being rude, but while appreciate the offer of your email address, at this time I think it is best to wait for either other members or ASG to respond to our question. From what I've seen and read here, ASG is very good about answering any questions members have. As you said the internet can be a double edged sword, and we all should be careful, and I'm not sure even putting your email addy here is a good idea or allowed either. Anyways, hopefully ASG will have an answer for us soon.
                  Shannon

      • Guest says:

        Hi Tigerliz,
Very nice to meet you.  Yes, Diana was and still is quite beautiful….one of the few remaining cast members of Dark Shadows.  She must lead a healthy life. Those old shows remind of when life was alot simpler.  Days were slow and the tele was PG all the way around!  Remember Big Valley with Barbara Stanwyck and Linda Evans?  Oh, the good ole' days! :)

        Kelley

        • Tigerliz says:

Yes Kelley, the good ole days…we had only b&w tele back then. I used wonder what the actors would look like in color LOL. Didn't get to see much of Big Valley, mainly remember Linda Evans from Dynasty.

    Hi Kelley,
Thanks for understanding. See ASG answered our questions rather quickly, so if you would like to post that link you were referring to they say it's alright for you to do so. As you said, I'm pretty sure my Mum would enjoy it very much! I look forward to hearing from you soon,

      Hello again, Shannon,
Here is the link to my Dark Shadows page inside the site :http://timespast.ning.com/profiles/profile/show?id=TheMadBlondeof1867 The audiobooks and videos are inside of each respective group.  If you on the tab that says, "Main" it will take you to the site homepage and from there click on the tab that says "Groups" and join whichever group you are interested in.  If you or your mum have any questions about what is located where inside the site, please feel free to leave me a comment on my page and I will steer you to the right place.

Thanks, ASG, for answering my questions so quickly.

Blimey! Firefox says it's a scammer and browser hijacker- and I believe it-Madblondemyass!!! Money making 419er

    • dixielandjazz says:

What!? What do you mean Doors? That website posted here is a link for a scammer and browser hijacker? I was going to check it out but I will wait now…

    • Guest says:

      Doors,
I don't know what you are talking about.  TimesPast is a legitamate site for people who like to listen to Old Time Radio.  I don't use Firefox.  I don't know what a money making 419er is.  I was simply trying to share a site that offers free audios and radio broadcasts to someone who expressed interest.  Times Past is not a scam or a browser high jacker.  Timespast.ning.com  I don't know why your Firefox is registering anything unusual but like I said, I don't use Firefox so I'm not familiar with it.  I'm sure you'll get it straightened out.

      Blessings,
      Kelley

      • SweetestTreats says:

        Hi Kelley,
My Mum & I just want to say thank you so much for posting your link to Times Past. We actually both love the site, which surprised me for myself lol. I was uspset to read what Doors wrote about the site here because, as you know there is no money-making scam or advertising there. Don' be upset Kelley you did a good thing recommending the site to everyone. I don't use this Firefox either so perhaps that's where the problem is.
        God Bless
        Shannon

  29. Guest says:

    Hello Cricket,
Thank you for your post.  First off, because I developed a Dark Shadows page, I used Bar Harbor, Maine and Laura Collins picture because it goes with the theme (there is no real Collinsport, Maine but if there was, it would be around Bar Harbor).  I am really from Park City, Utah so we are even closer geographically than you thought.  I do heed your advice about posting too much information and I know there are quite a few nuts abounding in cyberspace but I’ve never met any but the nicest people.  I think it’s because of the places I hang out, like ASG and Times Past.  I host the Victoriana and Steampunk group inside of Times Past so if you ever watched Wild Wild West on TV or like the 1895 Sherlock Holmesish mixed with a little H.G. Wells, you’ll love Steampunk.  Yes, you’ll find all the Amos and Andy plus everything in between there on the site.  Robert is the Head Administrator and he’s the kindest man you’ll ever met.  He’s just a great all-around human being.

The only reason we had to go to NIng Plus last year was because Ning changed their rules and policies and we couldn’t host our audios on the Ning site server any longer.  Now we have to find other sites to upload our audios to for sharing.  I use GE.tt because it’s free.  It hasn’t been effected by the filesharing problem.  Members aren’t required to pay.  Robert pays out of his own pocket.  The members give in their own ways.  Some contribute to the yearly fee and some buy their own audios and post them.  The site isn’t about making money or getting money.  It’s about sharing…just like ASG.  Those who can help, do and those who aren’t able to are just as welcomed and loved as everyone else.  Alot of people are retired, disabled or out of work.  We are here for those people just as much as for anyone else.

Oh yeah, one last thing.  If you join and want to look me up, there are two Mad Blondes as members.  I’m The Mad Blonde of 1867.  That’s why I gave you a link to my own page.  You’ll know me by my picture.  Do say hello and feel free to ask questions if there is something you’re looking for that you can’t find.  Some of the groups are organized a little strange but a little direction and you’ll get the hang of it.

Thanks again for your support.  I was starting to feel like TheMadStalker.  :)

    Kelley

When FF Alerts me then I tend to agree with it. I was unable
to respond on Disqus because of the threat level and had to post as a guest.
Maybe her website licence expired or something, but I shall withhold judgement
because my instincts smell professional advertising-a 24 hour teaser, then
pretending that “she” doesn’t how to post an avatar, but then miraculously has
her own website. I’m sorry, but it doesn’t equate.

    • Guest says:

That's funny.  I'm just a regular person like you.  This isn't MY website.  I am a member and an administrator of one of the groups.  I was simply trying to share what is FREE with Shannon, as she said her mum might be interested.  I'm not going to take offense.  In this crazy cyberworld it's always better to be safe than sorry and there are plenty of scammers to prove that point.  I hope you will be able to get your situation figured out.

      Regards,
      Kelley

      • dixielandjazz says:

Any ideas why he is getting a warning Kelley? I was going to go and check the web site out but now I am kind of afraid to.

        • Guest says:

          Dixie,
I honestly don't know why.  The link I gave was to my direct profile page on the Times Past page.  It has alot of widgets on it and maybe that tripped up his Firefox browser.  I was thinking of installing Firefox just to test it out and see what happens.  I put an email into the administrator and asked him if he knew why a FF browser would send an alert.  He's good at responding so I should get an answer soon if he has any knowledge of it.    Other than that, I can tell you that a few other members from here have already accessed the site and posted on it and they don't have any problems.  I use Google Chrome and IE8 and they don't pop up with anything.  Maybe his security settings are really high.    I can't remember the first time I joined the site whether or not I was able to access it right away or if there was a pop up that asked me to join first.  Usually, you just join by putting in your email and password.  That might have triggered it.  But I don't believe you have to join just to take a look around.  I think it only asks you to join when you want to join one of the groups inside and start downloading audiobooks.   If it was because I gave the link to my own personal page with widgets, he could try just using the main page http which is: TimesPast.ning.com.  Ning sites are social networking sites.  They're not moneymaking scheme sites. (not that I am aware of).  Plus, when you join our site, the first welcome you get from the Administrator also warns that if you try in any way to solicit, sell, or spam, you're OUT immediately and your ISP is banned for life.  We don't tolerate bad behavior.   Other than those ideas, I don't know why his FF is acting up.  But I can tell you that if I was here to scam, I wouldn't have given you my real picture, my real email address in one of my posts, my real name, and a site where I help administrate a group where you could track me down and get me in trouble.  When Mr. Doors is "adding up" all the things that don't make sense to him, he might consider those few things as well.  I didn't come here to post a link to the site.  We don't try to solicit members.  In fact, it's really just the opposite.  I was responding to something Shannon said.  Here, ASG gives alot and it's not like we can give back except to say "thanks" and this was just my small way of trying to give something.  That's all.So, I hope that helps and I'm truly sorry if my link caused any problems for those with FF browsers.  I'm really not that computer literate.  I know a few things about computers but not everything.Best Regards,Kelley

Okey dokey… thanks Kelley! That's good enough for me, I will check it out. If there is older music on there I want to steer my Dad to it, he loves that. :)   Thank you for responding and I hope you aren't offended by any of us worrying about malware and things. We didn't mean to offend you! Just trying to be cautious… :)   Have a great Sunday and talk to you soon!

regarding TheMadBlonde… the last thing i want to do anytime soon is get involved in a "who's really who."  but i have to share my experience following up on this.  Firefox didn't alert me upon going to Kelley's link & its usually pretty good about that.  she appears to be one of several peeps with their own page there.  when i say several, 1,558… it takes 78 pages to list all the members, each of whom have their own free, dedicated page, like Kelley.  "Robert" seems to be a VERY active member with posted files like…

Jack Benny's Golden Memories of Radio (HQ at 320 kbps)

on the homepage is this upfront statement…
"Welcome to Times Past  old time radio and nostalgia community. You will find here a variety of
nostalgic content from old radio shows of the golden era, as well as photos, video and much more. All the content here is contributed by the members of the community, free for the taking, and is for personal use only. There is nothing for sale here. You will find the members at Times Past more than happy to oblige an old-timer, newcomer or visitor alike, all from the love of a hobby. Enjoy your stay, and you are always welcome to partake in the community here and invite your friends. However, there is a zero tolerance policy for spam."

the only mention of money i found is the following…
"Times Past is now on Ning PLUS. The current rate for PLUS is $239.90 per year. It is paid by voluntary contributions from our members who can help out. The yearly fee from Ning covers all our members regardless of number. All members are welcome here whether they can contribute or not. No member is asked to participate.  Thanks for your support.  Robert.

there is a huuuuge amount of free posted content!!!  i bet i can find old Amos'n'Andy radio programs there.

i have to conclude Doors' Firefox gave him a false positive.

so until proven otherwise, welcome Kelley of Maine from David of Texas… we're practically neighbors.  i'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here.  please be careful sharing too much personal info, especially email addys, just as in any public forum. …cricket.

ps Kelley's page there is at this point very simply fleshed out. she's one of 1,558. i would not assume she should necessarily be an expert on adding a Disqus avatar, not at all. she's NOT a webmaster. her link was no different than any of us inviting someone to ASG. our MadBlonde now has at least 2 fun, free sites she can call "home."

I do heed your advice about posting too much information and I know there are quite a few nuts abounding in cyberspace but I've never met any but the nicest people.  I think it's because of the places I hang out, like ASG and Times Past.  I host the Victoriana and Steampunk group inside of Times Past so if you ever watched Wild Wild West on TV or like the 1895 Sherlock Holmesish mixed with a little H.G. Wells, you'll love Steampunk.  Yes, you'll find all the Amos and Andy plus everything in between there on the site.  Robert is the Head Administrator and he's the kindest man you'll ever met.  He's just a great all-around human being.

The only reason we had to go to NIng Plus last year was because Ning changed their rules and policies and we couldn't host our audios on the Ning site server any longer.  Now we have to find other sites to upload our audios to for sharing.  I use GE.tt because it's free.  It hasn't been effected by the filesharing problem.  Members aren't required to pay.  Robert pays out of his own pocket.  The members give in their own ways.  Some contribute to the yearly fee and some buy their own audios and post them.  The site isn't about making money or getting money.  It's about sharing…just like ASG.  Those who can help, do and those who aren't able to are just as welcomed and loved as everyone else.  Alot of people are retired, disabled or out of work.  We are here for those people just as much as for anyone else.

Oh yeah, one last thing.  If you join and want to look me up, there are two Mad Blondes as members.  I'm The Mad Blonde of 1867.  That's why I gave you a link to my own page.  You'll know me by my picture.  Do say hello and feel free to ask questions if there is something you're looking for that you can't find.  Some of the groups are organized a little strange but a little direction and you'll get the hang of it.

Thanks again for your support.  I was starting to feel like TheMadStalker.  :)

    Kelley

Kelley… i wondered about the Collinsport/Bar Harbor thing.  i figured maybe you liked Dark Shadows because you were from Maine!  when Dark Shadows was originally on, i babysat my younger brother & sister when school was out.  it was the only soap opera i DIDN'T care for, LOL!

however, i love Steampunk!  the recent Sky Captain movie is an example… & my favorite "flight" game is Crimson Skies, how early airplanes might have looked if in an "alternate" world.  many more wonderful examples of course… the notion of a steam-powered toaster or a windup cellphone.

      • Guest says:

Sweet pictures!  You'll fit right in, David!  I just uploaded the 4th in the series of the Parasol Protectorate last night.  They've already got a 5th one out.  I can't keep up!  Yes, it would have been awesome to see the reaction to a stealth bomber during WWI.  You've probably already downloaded The House of Brass PC game from here but it's alot of fun to play.  It's all Steampunk to include clockwork fireflies!  Now there's a novel idea! hehe

Concerning the Dark Shadows thing….well, you are not alone.  I've only met two type of people concerning Dark Shadows.  They either hated it or loved it…there wasn't an in between.  It's true that it's a very "campy" kind of show with lots of bloopers and people running into boom mikes during the live taping but that's what makes it so fun for me.  It was real TV….. in black and white for a long time.  Live performances was real acting back then.  That had to be a tremendously hard job and I give kudos to all those actors that could act on a dime.

Many of the followers now didn't see the original shows but know the show by way of Big Finish Audios.  They've come out with about 24 audiobooks that are fantastic listening.  I remember when the showed first aired and I was in elementary school.  I used to run as fast as my legs could take me off the school bus so I wouldn't miss an episode.  That was alot considering my house was a mile away from the bus stop, on a gravel road and all uphill!  The good ole' days.  I can barely make it to the mailbox and back now!

Well, thanks again for your welcome.  It's nice to have a second home with so many good hearted people.

        Warm Blessings,

        Kelley

Hi again Kelley, I forgot to add above that I use Internet Explorer 8 on my computer, and like I said don't have any issues at all with your site. Although when I first tried going to the site I got a message that the page did not exists, lol, until I realized I was misspelling the website address! Also just on another note, and perhaps ASG could shed light on this querry, when you first posted the link and ASG pulled it to moderate it before allowing it back for everyone to see, did they check the site out first to make sure it was a legitimate site? Because that would make sense to me, so that they know their members are safe as well from scammers. ASG is that what you do? Perhaps Doors missed the fact that you asked ASG's permission first before you attempted to post the link. Anyways Kelley we know you were just doing a wonderfully nice thing for everyone here! Hi Marie,
Thank-you for your welcome from France.  I was in Amiens for a short time.  You live in a beautiful country.     Yes, I think the browser makes a difference as well as your security settings but I am no expert.  Your virus software might also factor in on that type of thing.  And then, it could be none of those things.  It could just be because I have alot of widgets on my page that are flash intensive.  I'm just guessing to all of the above.  I'm still now really sure what the problem is.  Maybe if Mr. Doors can figure it out he can let us know.  Now, the tables are turned and we are the Sherlock Holmes trying to figure out the problem!I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday.Affectionately,Kelley

    Hi Dixie,
No problems.  I understand completely.  We should all have members willing to alert us to malware if it pops up.  One of those things took my laptop down last year.  Sadly, I had to watch the Geek Squad at Best Buy take the hard drive out and tell me it was fried.  It was already on it's last legs but the malware is what pushed it over the edge.  I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy and I do understand why people might get in a panic over it.

By the way, that turkey noodle soup and dessert you fixed the other day sounded heavenly. I got hungry just reading about it!

        Have a great day!

I was just telling the Administrator last week I wanted that laptop case on the left and the usb gadget.  They've also got a really cool steampunk ring.  The cellphone case is cool.  They need to make one for the iPhone.  But then that would force me to actually get an iPhone.  I'm probably the last living relic who doesn't own a cell phone.  But I do have an iPod so I'm not that outdated.

TheMadBlonde…. Kelley, are you looking forward to the upcoming Dark Shadows movie?  Johnny Depp, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer…
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1077368/

i hope everyone here knows about imdb (Internet Movie Data Base).  film critic Roger Ebert has long touted it.  anything you want to know about any movie, any movie star!!!  i've contributed to it myself. …David.

  45. Guest says:

I just searched your comments and found it.  I don't know why it didn't come into my in box.  Strange.  Anyways, yes, I am looking forward to it.  I'm going to try not to be hyper critical since I'm a die-hard fan.  You can't beat that cast.  Tim Burton always has a stellar lineup.  May seems years away.

P.S. for some reason, your link is bringing up the dreaded 404 error. Try this link instead. http://www.imdb.com/list/RDuccS_NvmY/#play-all

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They do have a clip out already (I was mistaken). Tim Burton has massacred Dark Shadows. He's turned it into some kind of weird mutant comedy. What could he have been thinking????

If you don't hear from me for awhile…..I'm just be over in the corner listening to self-help tapes and crying in my cornflakes. Waaaaaaa! Waaaaaaa

Update: I just watched it again and I'm sick over it. I am sick over it!! (did I mention I was sick over it!!!). They’ve turned a masterpiece into a cheap satyric piece of garbage, a taudry version of The Addams Family! Dan Curtis should never be remembered in this way. Tim and Johnny did such a good job with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. An excellent job. It was scary…not too scary and still had a little bit of humor. With this remake, they’ve made a joke of a beloved series that we fans cherish so deeply. I watched Johnny talk about watching Dark Shadows as a child. I’m shocked that 2 men who supposedly loved the show so much as kids would sell out like this. Have they no respect at all for what Dark Shadows was and still is?? The original cast members must be so disgusted with what they’ve done. I, for one, am disappointed beyond words. I'm not sure I'm even going to see it now.

Aside from that, it did look really funny. But that's beside the point.
    Waaaa…Waaaa <<<<<<<(sobs uncontrollably)

    • davycrickett says:

Kelley…. ooooh, i'm so sorry. you're right, the one pic of the cast at IMDB that i saw reminded me of The Addams Family, not Dark Shadows.  the original soap opera took was dark & serious.   i should have known, has Johnny Depp even played a serious character recently?  Tim Burton's behind it… of course its going to be campy, a cartoon without the animation.  as in… Beetlejuice!

edit… i just watched the trailer. OMG! who's the target audience? the teens are hooked on "Twilight," they'll laugh at this. not in a good way. on a positive note, sounds like it'll have an jaunty soundtrack album made up of uplifting pop songs circa 1972. bang a gong, get it on!

      • Guest says:

Exactly….Dark Shadows ala Beetlejuice/Edward Scissorhands.  I think the closest that Johnny Depp has played to a serious character (in collaboration with Tim Burton) was The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.  He did his own comic twist here and there but it didn't take away from the movie.  This is completely different.  They've set out from the very beginning to make it into some 21st Century lame vauedville act.  They should be ashamed of themselves.  Jonathan Frid is probably going into cardiac arrest as we speak.  Of course, he is too gracious to speak his  mind.  He'll probably say something nice and polite but I'm sure he's not happy at all….nor is Laura Parker and the rest of the cast….I would assume. I certainly can't speak for any of them. What a shame.

I supposed I'd better get a grip on myself.  There's too many real world crisis going on now for me to pretend like this is one.  It's just I was so looking forward to it and now I'm so disappointed.

        • davycrickett says:

btw, my comment was flagged because i did it to myself.  my IMDB link was okay, but Disquis lately has been bad about dropping paragraph breaks, thus my IMDB link didn't work for you.  in editing it, i triggered a review because of the URL.

if there's an upside to this for you, its so far removed there will be no debating cast choices & story details if they'd tried to stay true to the original.  having it frozen in time in 1972 is the first clue, a serious version would have it current.  i don't recall Dark Shadows riding around in VW buses… bell bottoms, peace signs.

          • Guest says:

Yes, it is far removed from the original but they had a stellar cast that could have pulled off the original.  Michelle Phiffer could have been an excellent "lady of the manor" and Johnny Miller already looked the stoic part of Roger Collins.  There's nothing that Helena Boham Carter can't act.  With some long hair, a little makeup and a semi-diabolical/sultry demeanor, Johnny Depp could have been the heart-stopping, heart-throbbing, modern-day Barbabas Collins all the fans have been waiting for.  He would have acted Twilight into the annals of ancient memory.  People would have already forgotten about Twilight 4 Part 2 before it was even made and waiting for Dark Shadows 2.
Now, we have this monstrosity.  I can't even think about it or I'll be forced to go eat some chocolate ice cream.  (There's no heartache that chocolate can't cure). I think I'll go drown my sorrows in Silent Nights – The Pianist Collector's Edition.

See, there…..I talked about the game….at least once, anyways.

            • davycrickett says:

which reminds me, i have a 5 quart tub of vanilla  fudge swirl, i may join you, lol.  Silent Nights is the best game here lately.  Jeannie & i felt the same about it. then back-to-back i played Small Town Terrors – Livingston, which i enjoyed as well.  all the while the TV on in the background to college basketball.  my brain's fried.  Small Town will be here soon, i'm sure.

& you're right, the cast list would have been perfect to do it straight. i'm reminded of "Springtime for Hitler," & Richard Dreyfuss as Hamlet in "The Goodbye Girl." (now there's an "ice cream, curl up on the couch" movie).

              • Guest says:

Yes, indeed.  I forgot to add that I played the demo of Silent Nights while I was waiting for the download and it is a beautiful game.  The developers did an EXCELLENT job on this one.  I like the fact that if you click too many time to find objects (like I often do) the cursor doesn't go schizoid.  Speaking of which, my cursor is all wobbly again in Special Enquiry Detail 2.  I just goggled it and it seems I'm not the only one.  I updated DirectX and all that other stuff but that doesn't make a difference.  There are some other people on Big Fish and GameHouse complaining about it too.  What I don't understand is why it's that way for some of us and works for others.  I'm using Windows7 Ultimate with everything updated.  I wonder if it has something to do with my own cursor.  I customized it so it would have a slight tail following behind it.  I might go turn that off and see if it makes a difference.

Enjoy your Vanilla Fudge Swirl.  I decided to really live a little.  I'm having a Dr. Pepper, too!

                • davycrickett says:

so now i'm torn.  i have all these new dvds, not sure which to watch 1st. "The Help," "Contagion," "Captain America," "My Weekend with Marilyn," or "The Adventures of Tintin."

with my Vanilla Fudge Swirl… with Coco Crispies sprinkled on top… okay, more like poured on, lol.  i'll stick with my Diet Dr Pepper/Pepsi… one must watch their sugar & calorie intake, you know.

                  • Guest says:

Oh that's easy.  Contagion.  Dr. Diet Pepper?  Really?  That tastes like drano.

Hey, I found the culprit behind my cursor problem.  If anyone else has the same thing, you have to right click on the exe file, go into properties and disable visual themes and desktop compositions and then click run as administrator.  If that doesn't fix it, right click on your desktop, click personalize and then change your desktop theme back to Basic 7.  It frees up more video card memory that can be used for your game.  That did the trick. ( I did take the tail off  my cursor but that wasn't the issue.)

I love Johnny Depp , i liked him in" Secret window " and"The Tourist "but i just like Johnny, so most things he stars in watch !!
Dark Shadows looks promising Johnny does gothic well xox

          • Guest says:

I forgot about Secret Window.  That was a really excellent serious role for him.  He does do gothic well but I'm not sure I would classify the new DS as that….comedy, I think.  That girl that is playing Angelique looks similar to Anne Hathaway (which he starred in with in Alice in Wonderland).  I know it's not her but I wonder if Burton asked her to be in it.  He should have.  She's great.

            • Tink says:
