I haven't been able to play this game past the glitch and I think it's because I never got asked about the keygen. How do you activate it so you can enter a keygen and play past the part with the painting?
I have this problem more often where I am not asked for a keygen at all.

Simply uninstalling the no-working version and reinstall the new one, without changing the profile is exactly the point spread indicted

If you change your profile, Cris, this means to change your name that you used the first time you played this game, and when you do, you have to start the game from the beginning, (the start) of the game. Point spread means the odds on who will win, or the favored player, team, that might win a game in football, or baseball, or some card game.
What post have you been reading, Cris? Usually point spread is a term gambler's use, well a lot they do.
Also, have you tried using your native language to post here on ASG's site? A lot of us gamers here have a translator we can use to understand you, and also it will translate our English into your language, so we can answer you in your language, and then maybe you will be able to understand better?

Você precisa:
- não instalar a velha versão que você teve.
- instalar esta nova versão do jogo
- começar o jogo com um novo nome, outro do que aquele que você primeiro usou. Você lembram-se quando você primeiro começou o jogo ele pediu o seu nome.
Basicamente você tem de começar o jogo do começo com outro nome.

Não instale o jogo. Então você tem de eliminar o seu perfil salvado prévio.
Faça isto:
- entrar em Start então Control Panel e abrem Folder Options
- clicar na etiqueta de View no acima mencionado cardápio
- a pesquisa na lista de 'Show hidden files and folders and drives' e seleciona aquela opção. Feche a janela
- ir novamente na Start e na barra de Search a escrevem o nome do jogo Sherlock Holmes e deixam-no procurar os arquivos
- eliminar cada arquivo que aparece na lista
- reinstalar o jogo. Esperança ele trabalhará.
Cris, você tem que apagar o arquivo de log em C: / Users / Nome do proprietário do computador, talvez seja Cris / APP Data / Roaming / Frogware / Sherlock Holmes …. LOG. Há um caminho mais curto para chegar ao Application Data ou pasta APP DATA, pois por padrão o Windows oculta essa pasta, a maioria dos usuários de PC não pode apagar os arquivos de programa LOG, mas é possível que eu vou te dizer como mostrar APP dados.
Vá ao Painel de Controle, clique em Opções de pasta, clique em Exibir no guia do meio em cima da pequena janela, em seguida, um pouco abaixo aviso Mostrar arquivos pastas e unidades, preencha o pequeno círculo, ou verificá-lo, clique em Aplicar e clique em OK . Agora vá para sua pasta pessoal, o nome do proprietário, Cris, talvez? Abra-o, e você vai ver uma pasta protegida, parece um pouco cinzento, e diz APP dados, clique com ele aberto, clique em roaming, agora deslocar-se para Frogwares, clique em que abrir, clique no Sherlock Holmes jogo, ou se apenas o LOG Mostrar arquivos, excluí-los para a sua lixeira e excluí-las de lá. Você precisa executar um programa de limpeza de arquivos para o computador. Uma é uma simples multa. Então você deve ser bom para reinstalar o jogo, alterar o nome do jogador para um novo, em seguida, começar do começo. well i deleted this game from my computer along time ago because i could not pick up the key so today i seen that it says its been updated so i downloaded it again deleted my old game and started a new profile with a diffrent name and what do you know i still cant pick up the damn key man this is so frustrating

I see, you meant the 2nd part. Actually, saint, it is not deleted it is a 404, which means it cannot be found. So for a time, it is missing. What you can do is contact the sites administrator, which is the same woman who runs the site, and request that she fix the error. I have seen her be very quick to do that. Good luck, saint.

The link is working fine. Make sure you have typed it correctly, as there is another site that is similar to the one you should have gotten the answer to. One letter is missing from a site name, like it is NOVITACU, when the other that only gives portable games is spelled novtacu, or something. The one other I don't know if they are related to each other. The correct place, if you got it right, the link goes to Fileserve.

No, it's just missing. Sometimes it's due to a site being down, or the link is down. I turned premium user two days ago for filesonic, so I have proof, lol, that it makes no difference. Anyway, 404 just means that the web can't find the link. That is why you should try to report the error to the Administrator of the web site. I have seen her take action quickly if there are errors, so just let her know. Good Luck

Well last time I was on her site, link number two was 404, which means Cannot Be Found. I hope by now she has repaired it. LOL it was just lucky I saw your comment, as I will not see it in my window unless I am replied to in a message box I have used. Good luck repairing the game.
Such a shame,love this game but no luck. Played it twice now. Same as Queen of Spades,great game but still haven't found a glitchless version……maybe one day.

I know a lot more about files these days than when I did when this game came out. I was thinking on downloading ASG's version again, to see if I can pin point what the error may be. Its been so long, its hard to remember, but i think we who got it working had to download and install part of BFG's edition, just like Queen of Spades. I am going to dedicate my days energy into tackling this game problem and hopefully be able to help you play it.
While i am messing about with it, Sweetlulu, will you clean out your log files in Application data/Roaming folder in the folder reading as Frogwares?I have left instruction on how to unhide this folder by going to Control Panel, Folder Options, View, and selecting show hidden files folders and drives, so please if you need them have a look about on ASG cause they're written multiple times. See you hopefully soon with a fix, Hun.

Thanks for the info, Amnah, perhaps Sweetlulu, and others may like to choose that path of torrent. My purpose was to finally try and correct the lua error indefinitely, so tyhe next gamers to download would have precise instructions on what to do in order to pass a troublesome part. I have finished the game from ASG's file months ago. So many months ago, that my memory is vague on what actions I, and others took to complete the game. I know some folks either do not know how to torrent, or else they do not want to, or don't want to take the time, or can't. Some are just too dang impatient, LOL, and want a fix NOW. LOL I am working on pinpointing the exact error in the file, and already have a clean copy, undamaged to test my findings.
You see back then we did similar actions with different games as many at the time were having huge errors of items missing etc, that the many games kind of run into one another.
The issue of this game has been going on long, too long, and too many have had to miss out on it.
I want to correct that mistake if I can.
I am about 1/2 way there, but I am also quite busy with other stuff, so for anyone waiting on my diagnosis, and repair we hope, lol, please be patient a wee bit longer, or perhaps you would like to take Amnah's suggestion.
Some folks do not have enough bandwidth on their provider plan to torrent, and some also don't have the patience it takes, lol. I don't do it very much anymore, as I do not really have a need to, so only when I am desperate!

unfortunately i could not find a fix so i took a huge chance and download the game from one of torrent sites and it worked perfectly…they are many fix ones …but after finding ASG I stopped downloading from torrent sites because most of the time they are not reliable…but I mange to find a good link and it is working perfectly i have passed the key ….
so if any one want to download the game from the same place i did just search me under (sweetlulu) but the name game and my name after and I will come up…I always make sure that i put my comment after i try out the game for other players….
P.S
some might have to turn your antivirus off when you're done downloading than install the game and turn it back on… my antivirus keep deleting the file…

well i have a huge problem with torrent because where I am most of the sites are blocked to thank God for ASG so now i'll wait for them to fix the game but when i see the chance i go to torrent…
but now I stopped downloading games as soon as they come out because of the fear of the bug …ASG been amazing with fixing games fast….but some games are harder than others…
so hope it would be fixed soon for others

I have repaired the game. At least it works for me now.
This is what I did:

ASG, ARCHIVE THIS BABEEE'S! Cause Xeny will not want to type it again! I'm DEAD serious!
The problem is in the sound files, it appears, though I am not an expert in computer language I think if one read the whole, its simply concluded. I found the error logged in Roaming. Here is a little part of it, so you can see what the program did to repair. Apparently it used the command line. Right below this muddle is where I will tell exactly what I did, and in which the game worked.

First I played ASG version up to the point of the Greedy Henry VIII, who horded the key in his unbecoming portrait.
I uninstalled the game, after having read the logs, but I did not delete them.
I then reinstalled the game, and I did NOT clean any old files or folder. I left it all alone
I began the newly installed game, but did not change profiles. I started the game up again with my original profile in which the error occurred.
The key was still being held by fatso askhull the redheaded slime ball in the portrait, and he would not release the key.
I then, leaving the game running, lowered the game page so I could open APP Data/Roaming/Frogwares/Sherlock Holmes and the etcvilles.
I then moved the log file to another folder way the heck away from any game folders so I could examine them later. Into Contacts, exactly.
Now this is to say that YES, with the game still running, I deleted the LOG file ONLY out of the path in Roaming I mention above.
The LOG file, SAVE file, and SET-UP file, are all SEPARATE from each other.
I DID NOT DELETE the SAVE file, or the SET-UP file.
I went back to the game, and still nothing as I clicked a few times, but then I tried the hint button, at first nothing.
I then went to a character in the game, I think was the young man who hired Holmes, or else Watson, and the dialogue he spoke was saying Henry the baskard had a KEY, and muttered some other garb. I then saw the changes in the game, how the 3D shown through about the KEY, making it look visually like I could really take it. And I did!
I closed the game, went to Roaming folder, and checked logs again, and YES, the game had recreated the log files fresh and spanking new!
Anyone trying this, if you have trouble lowering your game window, just click the Windows key on either bottom side of the keyboard of the space bar, and the game will lower but it will lower to the task bar, and pause, which may not fix the game, so use the options in the game menu to go to windowed mode during this process.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO TRY THIS FIX. I HOPE TO HELL IT WORKS, CAUSE XENY IS POOPED!!!

Then I remembered having to kind of scratch fix Sherlock Holmes, and it was a great feeling when it worked after all the estimating, and calculating, and replaying of the game from the beginning to come to an exciting finish.
